ST. DAVID’S, Pa. – The Cabrini volleyball team opened its 2010 regular season schedule on the road against backyard-rival No. 18 Eastern University. The Eagles recorded a 3-0 victory versus the Cavaliers.
Junior outside hitter Alexis Doss led the Cabrini offense with a team-high seven kills. Senior middle hitter Stephanie Recklau and freshman outside hitter Sophia Sokolovich each contributed four kills.
Freshman setter Alaina Clark guided the Blue & White offense, notching a club-best 17 assists. Clark also posted two service aces.
Defensively, junior libero Courtney Abel anchored the Cavaliers with a team-best 18 digs. Clark added six digs.
Eastern jumped out to a one-set advantage with a 25-14 victory in game one. The Eagles backed Cabrini into a wall with a 25-15 triumph in the second set.
EU clinched the match with a 25-17 win in the third stanza. Junior outside hitter Courtney Reinhold led the Eagles’ offense with 15 kills. Junior setter Maria Horning tallied 38 assists.
Cabrini (0-1) begins the tournament portion of its regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 at the Moravian College Tournament. The Cavaliers begin play at 4 p.m. against Ursinus College.
