RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women’s team opened its 2010 season in emphatic fashion on Wednesday afternoon, rolling past New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Richard Stockton College, 8-1, at the Dixon Courts. The Cavaliers set the match’s tone from the start with a clean sweep in doubles play.
Sophomore Gabriela Durand and freshman Katie Kennedy sparked the Blue & White in doubles play with an 8-5 victory in the No. 1 position versus Krystle Bendijo and Brittany Hall.
Junior Alexis DiCamillo and rookie Adriana Scotto earned a resounding 8-2 win in the No. 2 spot against Tara Varga and Jaclyn Britton.
Junior Michelle Lettmann and freshman Victoria Nastala cruised to an 8-1 triumph in the No. 3 hole versus Christina Ledwith and Erika Alberghini.
Kennedy led off the Cavaliers in singles play with a 6-4, 6-0 win out of the No. 1 spot against Bendijo. Durand claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 position versus Hall.
DiCamillo rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 3 hole against Varga. Lettmann earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 versus Ledwith.
Scotto notched a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position against Nicole Rodriguez.
The victory is the Blue & White’s first against the Richard Stockton in the its last seven attempts. The win also avenges 7-1 and 9-0 losses at the hands of the Ospreys in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
Cabrini (1-0) resumes action on Saturday, Sept. 4 at home versus Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent and runner-up from one year ago Neumann University. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
