RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women’s soccer team opened its 2010 regular season schedule in grand fashion on Wednesday afternoon at Edith Robb Dixon Field, earning a 3-0 win versus Midwest Conference opponent Lawrence University. The victory is the Cavaliers’ eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Senior forward Annmarie Kolla carried with her the momentum from a career-best season in 2009 into today’s first contest, powering the Cabrini offense with two goals. The Cavaliers’ offense recorded 17 shots.
Kolla put the Cavaliers ahead for good less than 18 minutes after the opening whistle, depositing a rebound in front off a shot from junior midfielder Sammy Thompson. Kolla provided the hosts with a two-goal cushion in the 59th minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from sophomore forward Dana Drake.
Kolla came into her own last season with the Cavaliers, ranking second on the team with 24 points on nine goals and six assists. For her career at Cabrini, she owns 41 points with 16 scores and nine helpers.
Junior back Amy Loesser added an insurance tally for the Blue & White from the penalty kick stripe in the 68th minute.
Junior midfielder Kara Hinkelmon led the Cabrini charge with five shots. Loesser recorded four.
Senior goalkeeper Gianna Porretta got the nod in between the pipes and made three saves for her 12th career blanking.
Lawrence sophomore netminder Cassie Burke totaled five stops in the loss. The Vikings, also playing their first match of the new campaign, hail from Appleton, Wis. and traveled nearly 950 miles to meet the Blue & White.
The Cavaliers are now 9-3 at Edith Robb Dixon Field since the start of the 2009 campaign.
Cabrini (1-0-0) resumes its regular season schedule on the road this weekend at the Bryn Mawr College Invitational. The Cavaliers meet the host Owls on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 12 p.m.
