No. 9 Rowan Trips Up Field Hockey in 2010 Debut

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Cabrini field hockey team suffered a season-opening 6-0 loss at No. 9 Rowan University Wednesday afternoon. The Profs scored five goals in the second half en route to the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Donahue went the distance and recorded 18 saves for the Cavaliers in the loss. Sophomore midfielder Taylor McGarvey tallied two of the Blue & White’s five total shots.
Rowan owned a narrow 1-0 advantage at the break following a goal from senior forward Lauren Ross at the 22:42 mark.
Senior forward Nicole Valianti’s score in the 45th minute sparked a five-goal second half effort for the Profs. Ross added her second goal of the game with less than eight minutes remaining.
Rowan’s offense recorded 23 shots and nine penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper Lisa Apt played 64 minutes and notched three saves in the victory.
Cabrini (0-1) resumes its 2010 regular season on the road on Saturday, Sept. 4 versus Drew University. Game time against the Rangers is set for 1 p.m.
