RADNOR, Pa. –
Casey Grugan, Cabrini’s all-time leader in career points, was selected in the 8th round of the 2010 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) draft by the Chicago Machine on Sunday at Yale University’s Lanman Center. Grugan is the first Cavalier in program history to be drafted by an MLL franchise.

The lone Division III player selected, Grugan was chosen as the 43rd pick overall, and the first in the 8th and final round.

Grugan concluded his Cavaliers tenure with 334 career points, scoring 206 goals and tallying 128 assists. He owns Cabrini’s single-season record for points (97) and assists (44).

Grugan is a three-time U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America selection, earning Cabrini’s first ever first-team nod in 2010. He claimed second-team distinction in 2009 and third-team honors in 2008.

In 2010, Grugan was named the ECAC Metro/South Region Player of the Year and was selected the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year for the third straight season. Grugan was tabbed the CSAC Rookie of the Year in 2007.

In Cabrini’s 16-7 win against Fairleigh Dickinson University on Feb. 24, Grugan set the NCAA Division III record for consecutive games with at least one goal, a mark that stood for 33 years. He wrapped up his career scoring at least one goal in 73 straight contests.

Grugan is the second Cabrini player all-time to play professionally, joining former Cavalier Mike Pape (2000-03). Pape played in the National Lacrosse League with the Philadelphia Wings.

Chicago is 3-1 this season and a winner of two straight games, last downing the Toronto Nationals, 14-13, on June 5. The Machine used the 1st overall pick of the draft to select Ned Crotty from Duke University.
