CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Senior attackman Casey Grugan has been selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro/South Region Player of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday. Grugan is one of five Cavaliers to receive ECAC Metro/South Region All-Stars, joining sophomore defenseman John McSorley, junior defenseman Steve Heaps, junior midfielder Paul Skulski and junior face-off specialist Mike Gurenlian.

One day removed from being named Cabrini’s first ever U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association First Team All-American, Grugan adds yet another piece of individual hardware to his already crowded mantle. He also earned the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year honor for the third straight season in 2010.

Grugan walks away from the Cavaliers as the programs all-time leader in career points (334), and ranks second in career goals (206) and career assists (128). He owns the program’s single-season records for points (97) and assists (44), and lists third for goals (65).

Grugan tallied at least one point in the final 76 games of his collegiate career with the Blue & White. He also set the NCAA Division III mark for consecutive contests with at least one goal, surpassing the 33-year-old mark and leaving behind his own milestone at 73 games.

In all games played through May 23, Grugan lists third and fourth nationally in goals per game (3.42) and points per game (5.11), respectively. Grugan topped Stevenson University’s senior Steve Kazimer and junior Jimmy Dailey, also USILA First Team All-Americans at attack, for ECAC Player of the Year distinction.

McSorley joins Grugan as an ECAC Metro/South Region First Team All-Star, starting each of the Cavaliers’ 19 games this season at close defense. He led the team with 25 caused turnovers and ranked third with 49 groundballs. McSorley earned USILA Honorable Mention All-America distinction on Tuesday.

Heaps was named an ECAC Metro/South Region Second Team All-Star, also playing and starting in all 19 contests with McSorley on the Cabrini backline. He listed second on the Blue & White with 63 groundballs, ranking tied for eighth all-time on the program’s single-season charts.

Skulski recorded a career-best 58 points on 35 goals and 23 assists en route to ECAC Metro/South Region Second Team All-Star honors. He’ll begin his final season with the Cavaliers in 2011 ranked seventh in program history in career points (153).

Heaps and Skulski joined McSorley in garnering USILA Honorable Mention All-America laurels.

Gurenlian, an ECAC Metro/South Region Third Team All-Star, served as Cabrini’s catalyst in the draw circle throughout 2010, ranking sixth nationally in face-off win percentage (.679) through May 23. He ranks third in the Cavaliers’ program history with 260 career face-off victories.
