EWING, N.J. – The 2010 Cabrini women’s lacrosse season has come to a close in the first round of the NCAA Tournament following a 19-7 loss at the hands of No. 6 The College of New Jersey. The Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time since the 2000 campaign.
Senior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz, senior attack Erin Nollen and junior attack Jamie O’Hanlon each recorded three points with two goals and one assist in the loss.
Senior attack Danielle Rothermel posted one point with one goal. Sophomore attack Jacky McDermott and freshman attack Christina Pasquariello also each notched one point on one assist.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Schmid tallied nine saves versus the Lions. Schmid also led the Cavaliers with four groundballs.
Cabrini traded punches with nationally ranked TCNJ in the opening minutes, sharing a 2-2 tie at the 24:17 mark of the first half. Alexandrowicz knotted the contest at 1-1 before Nollen provided the equalizer at 2-2 less than five minutes following.
The Lions seized control of the contest and an 8-2 cushion with six unanswered goals over the ensuing nine minutes. TCNJ held an 11-4 advantage at the intermission.
The Lions ballooned their lead to 13-4 early in the second half and led by 10 goals, 16-6, with 8:40 remaining. O’Hanlon netted the Cavaliers’ final tally of the game at the 3:38 mark.
Sophomore midfielder Leigh Mitchell led the TCNJ offense with 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Junior midfielder Ali Jaeger posted eight points with seven scores and one helper.
Junior goalkeeper Mary Waller tallied three saves in the victory.
The loss ends the career for nine Cavaliers, including Alexandrowicz, Nollen and Schmid. Alexandrowicz (263 points) and Nollen (294) combined for 557 points during their time at Cabrini. Schmid ends her Cabrini tenure with 49 career wins and nearly 750 career saves.
Alexandrowicz and Nollen have each earned Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year recognition. Schmid is a four-time CSAC First Team selection.
Head coach Jackie Neary wraps up her 14th season in charge and will begin her 15th at Cabrini in 2011 needing 12 victories for 200 in her career. Neary owns a 188-70 career mark with the Cavaliers.
The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team ends the 2010 season with an 11-8 overall record.
