HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team begins its 2010 regular season schedule today at Centennial Conference opponent Haverford College. Game time against the Fords at Swan Field is set for 4 p.m.
Head coach Jackie Neary begins her 14th season with the Cavaliers in 2010, owning a 177-62 career record. Neary guided the Blue & White to its ninth Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) – formerly the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) – title last season.
Cabrini captured eight consecutive league crowns from 1998 – 2005. The Cavaliers made their sixth appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament last spring.
Neary’s offense will boast an explosive attack line in 2010, headlined by senior Erin Nollen, senior Amanda Alexandrowicz and junior Jamie O’Hanlon.
Nollen is a two-time CSAC First Team selection, earning the conference’s player of the year honor in 2009. She begins her senior season with 220 career points on 171 goals and 49 assists.
Alexandrowicz claimed CSAC First Team distinction last season and second-team accolades in 2008. She has posted 174 points on 146 goals and 28 assists in 51 career games played at Cabrini.
O’Hanlon enters her third season with the Cavaliers on the heels of a CSAC Honorable Mention selection in 2009. She eclipsed the 100-point barrier last season, owning 111 career points on 69 scores and 42 helpers.
Senior midfielder Kellie Levy will help compliment Nollen, Alexandrowicz and O’Hanlon on the offensive end after recording 26 points on 22 goals and four assists in 2009. Junior attack Kristen Vernon (28P, 18G, 10A) and sophomore attack Jacky McDermott (32P, 24G, 8A) add depth to the front line.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Schmid will anchor the Blue & White defense. She has played in 53 games with the Cavaliers, owning a 38-15 record. Schmid is a three-time CSAC First Team honoree.
Schmid will rely on help from the back line duo junior Courtney Davis and senior Monica Souders. Davis received honorable mention laurels last season and was named the most valuable player of the CSAC title game win against Gwynedd-Mercy College. Souders has played in 30 career games with the Blue & White.
Haverford (3-0) is riding a three-game win streak to begin the 2010 campaign, out-scoring its opponents 45-13. Head coach Julie Young is in her second season with the Fords and owns a 13-6 career record.
Josie Ferri leads the Haverford offense thus far, posting 16 points on 13 goals and three assists. Alexa Pesce has tallied 13 points on five scores and eight helpers.
Leah Hammerschlag has started all three games in goal for Haverford, boasting a stingy 2.67 goals-against average and .600 save percentage.
