Women's Lacrosse Topped at Haverford College, 14-8

HAVERFORD, Pa. –
The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team began its 2010 season Tuesday afternoon, suffering a 14-8 loss versus Centennial Conference opponent Haverford College. Seniors Amanda Alexandrowicz and Erin Nollen each recorded three points for the Cavaliers in the loss.

Alexandrowicz and Nollen each netted three goals against the Fords. Senior midfielder Kellie Levy and junior attack Jamie O’Hanlon tallied one goal apiece.

Senior Kate Schmid started for the Blue & White in the cage, notching seven saves in 60 minutes played. Schmid also posted a team-best six groundballs.

Junior midfielder Kristen Vernon dished one assist and collected a team-high four draw controls. Sophomore attack Jacky McDermott also handed out helper.

Haverford (4-0) opened the contest with six of the game’s first seven goals. Nollen initiated the Cavaliers’ scoring with her first goal of the season at the 19:24 mark.

After the Fords scored four unanswered goals, Alexandrowicz found the back of the cage with 2:45 remaining in the first half, trimming Cabrini’s deficit to four goals, 6-2, at the intermission.

The Cavaliers quickly pulled within two goals, 6-4, less than four minutes into the second half following scores from Alexandrowicz (28:35) and Nollen (26:38).

In fact, Cabrini cut its deficit to two goals on three different occasions in the closing 30 minutes. However, just as the Cavaliers seemed to shift the momentum meter, Haverford answered with scores to push its lead back to three goals.

Following Nollen’s third goal of the game with 17:47 remaining, the Fords seized control of the contest with four consecutive tallies. Sophomore attack Jen Schmidt triggered the run at the 14:59 mark.

Levy added the Cavaliers’ final tally with 3:43 remaining in the second half.

Sophomore attack Josie Ferri led the Haverford attack with six points on four goals and two assists.  Sophomore attack Alexa Pesce recorded four points, pairing two scores with two helpers. Schmidt chipped in three goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Leah Hammerschlag played nearly 53 minutes in goal for the Fords, allowing five goals and recording four saves en route to the victory.

Cabrini (0-1) remains on the road at Landmark Conference foe the University of Scranton Thursday, March 11. Game time against the Lady Royals is set for 4 p.m.
