ROANOKE, Va. – The 13th-ranked Cabrini men’s lacrosse team wrapped up a three-game road trip Saturday versus No. 5 Roanoke College, dropping a 21-7 decision at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. Junior attackman Paul Skulski posted a team-high five points for the Cavaliers in the loss.
Skulski scored two goals and handed out three assists in the loss. Through four games in 2010, he leads the Cabrini offense with 16 points on nine scores and a team-high seven helpers.
Senior attackman Casey Grugan extended his NCAA Division III record of consecutive games with at least one goal to 58, netting three markers against the Maroons. He has tallied at least one point in 61 straight contests, the longest active Division III streak in the country.
On Friday, Grugan was named one of 64 candidates across Divisions I, II and III for the Tewaaraton Award, given annually to the nation’s top lacrosse player. He is one of just five Division III performers named to the distinctive list.
Sophomore midfielder Brian Hill and freshman midfielder Andrew Protenic each recorded one point on one goal. Hill led the Blue & White with five groundballs.
Junior face-off specialist Joe Strain won 4-of-8 draw attempts for the Cavaliers. Junior Mike Gurenlian went 7-for-17 at the face-off X.
Freshman goalkeeper Erick Zarzecki started in between the pipes for Cabrini for the fourth straight game. Zarzecki notched 11 saves in 49 minutes played before making way for sophomore cageminder James Caruso. Caruso totaled four stops in his first action of the 2010 season.
Trey Keeley posted a team-best five points on two goals and three assists for Roanoke in the win. Jeff Keating tallied four points, pairing two goals with two assists. Ashton Hotckiss (2G, 1A), Steve Furdock (2G, 1A) and Justin Tuma (3G) each contributed three points.
Jake Dorsey logged nearly 59 minutes in the cage for Roanoke, registering 17 saves and allowing six goals. Kyle Hagens came on in relief and totaled three stops.
Cabrini (2-2) begins a five-game homestand Saturday, March 13 versus North Coast Athletic Conference opponent Kenyon College. Game time at Edith Robb Dixon Field is set for 1 p.m.
