Cavalier Recap: January 25

RADNOR, Pa. - The Cavalier Recap will appear on CabriniAthletics.com weekly, retelling the tales of the week that was in Cabrini Athletics. Today’s recap details the week of Monday, January 18 to Sunday, January 24.

Men’s Basketball (14-1, 9-0)
The Cabrini men’s basketball team remains unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play following a 78-71 win at Immaculata University Saturday. Freshman point guard Cory Lemons scored 22 points and junior forward Dom Farrello chipped in 18 points. The Cavaliers also knocked off Neumann University last week, 88-79, behind five double figures scorers. Senior forward Kevin Misevicius led the way with 24 points. Cabrini is back in action tonight versus CSAC foe Philadelphia Biblical University at 8 p.m.

Women’s Basketball (8-7, 6-2)
The Cabrini women’s basketball team improved its record to 3-0 all-time at Madison Square Garden with a 66-52 victory against Immaculata Saturday. Senior combo guard Alyssa Brady totaled recorded a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Senior point guard Deana DiAmico added 20 points. The Cavaliers saw their two-game CSAC win streak snapped Thursday in a 77-60 setback against Neumann. Brady scored a team-best 17 points in the loss. Cabrini returns home to Nerney Field House Tuesday, Jan. 26 against non-conference foe Montclair State University at 6 p.m.

Men/Women’s Swimming
The Cabrini men and women’s swimming teams were back in the water Saturday at Swarthmore College. The Garnet earned two victories, downing the Cavalier men, 74-55, and the Blue & White women, 148-88. Junior Bill Boylan finished first for Cabrini in the 100yd freestyle (49.85). Senior Andrea Carabello placed second in the 50yd freestyle (26.35) and third in the 100yd freestyle (58.59). The Cavaliers learned Friday that they will become an affiliate member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), beginning in 2010-11. The Cabrini men and women’s swimming teams return to the pool Friday, Feb. 20 at St. Mary’s (Md.) College for the Seahawk Invitational.

Men/Women’s Track & Field
The Cabrini men and women’s track & field teams competed at the Ursinus College Collegeville Classic Friday. Freshman Danica Giddens continued the solid start to her collegiate career with a second-place finish in the 55m dash (7.59). Junior Diane Gapinski (5:54.91) finished sixth in the 1-mile run and freshman Nadia Hernandez (9.60) placed sixth in the 55m hurdles. On the men’s side, freshman Tyler Rooke (4:49.92) finished 12th in the 1-mile run.

Athlete of the Week
Kevin Misevicius
Basketball (Men)

Senior forward Kevin Misevicius scored a team-high 20 points in the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament First Round loss against No. 16 Randolph-Macon College at Albright College’s George C. Bollman Center.

Misevicius shot 8-for-17 from the field overall and knocked down 4-of-8 3-point attempts. He also grabbed four rebounds and swiped three steals. Misevicius reached the 20-point pleateau for the 30th time in two seasons at Cabrini.

Misevicius concludes his Cavaliers’ career listing ninth all-time on the program’s scoring list with 1,123 points. He ranks sixth all-time in blocked shots (73) and seventh in steals (155).

Misevicius is the only player in program history to twice eclipse the 500-point barrier in a single season. He also owns the team’s second and third best single-season steals performances, swiping 84 in 2008-09 and 71 in 2009-10.
