Women's Lacrosse Season Ends with 14-9 Loss at Roanoke College in NCAA Tournament

SALEM, Va. –
The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team concluded its 2009 season Wednesday following a 14-9 loss against No. 17 Roanoke College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers were making their sixth appearance in the national postseason all-time and the first since the 2005 campaign.

Senior midfielder Kerri Ricker and junior attack Amanda Alexandrowicz powered the Cabrini offense, each posting two points on two goals. Sophomore attack Jaime O’Hanlon tallied two points on one score and one helper.

Senior Anna Scholl, junior Erin Nollen, junior Kellie Levy and freshman Jacqueline McDermott each recorded one point on one goal.

Scholl led the Cavaliers with four groundballs, while Alexandrowicz tallied four draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Kate Schmid played all 60 minutes in between the Cabrini pipes, totaling 20 saves, including 11 in the first half.

After the Marooons opened the contest with two goals in less than six minutes, the Cavaliers buried three unanswered scores and grabbed a 3-2 lead with 15:34 remaining before the intermission.

Alexandrowicz sparked the run with a goal from an O’Hanlon pass at the 23:40 mark. Scholl and Nollen connected on unassisted goals shortly following.

Roanoke tallied three of the half’s final four goals, including one with nine seconds remaining, to secure a 6-4 edge at the break.

The Maroons led by as much as three goals, 8-5, at the 23:49 mark of the second half. The Cavaliers trimmed their deficit to just one goal, 8-7, after scores from Ricker and O’Hanlon separated by 75 seconds.

Roanoke jumped to an 11-8 lead with 5:13 on the clock and pushed its cushion to 13-8 just three minutes later. Levy provided Cabrini’s last gasp with a goal at the 1:14 mark.

Junior midfielder Paige Mason led the Maroons with five points on two goals and three assists. Junior midfielder Gina Valles added four points on three goals and one assist.

Senior goalkeeper Katlyn Scarlett totaled 10 saves in the victory.

Roanoke advances and will meet Gettysburg College Saturday, May 9 at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.

Cabrini finishes the 2009 campaign with 12 victories overall. Head coach Jackie Neary will begin the 2010 campaign just one win shy of reaching 180 for her Cavaliers’ career.

Kevin Misevicius
Basketball (Men)

Senior forward Kevin Misevicius scored a team-high 20 points in the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament First Round loss against No. 16 Randolph-Macon College at Albright College’s George C. Bollman Center.

Misevicius shot 8-for-17 from the field overall and knocked down 4-of-8 3-point attempts. He also grabbed four rebounds and swiped three steals. Misevicius reached the 20-point pleateau for the 30th time in two seasons at Cabrini.

Misevicius concludes his Cavaliers’ career listing ninth all-time on the program’s scoring list with 1,123 points. He ranks sixth all-time in blocked shots (73) and seventh in steals (155).

Misevicius is the only player in program history to twice eclipse the 500-point barrier in a single season. He also owns the team’s second and third best single-season steals performances, swiping 84 in 2008-09 and 71 in 2009-10.
