NEW YORK, N.Y. –
Junior Casey Grugan is profiled in this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated as part of the “Faces In The Crowd” section. In 2009, Grugan established two Cabrini single-season records, totaling 96 points and notching 44 assists.

Against Stevenson University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Grugan extended his consecutive goals streak to 54 games, matching a 32-year old Division III record established by Washington College’s John Cheek. He also ended the season with the country’s second longest consecutive points streak at 57 games.

Grugan was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Second Team All-American this season after receiving third team accolades in 2008. He was tabbed the Inside Lacrosse Division III National Player of the Week March 31.

Grugan, a four-time Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week in 2009, was named the league’s player of the year for the second straight season and also earned first team honors.

Grugan will begin his final season at Cabrini listed second in the program’s history in career points (237), goals (141) and assists (96). He is one of only three Cavaliers all-time, joining Athletic Hall of Fame honoree Tom Lemieux and senior Scott Reimer, to reach the 200-point and 100-goal plateau.

The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team captured its ninth consecutive CSAC championship in 2009 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight season. The Cavaliers won its third NCAA Tournament game all-time, downing visiting Montclair State, 17-3, in the first round.
