Seniors Honored, Celebrate Cabrini Careers
More than 60 Cabrini senior student-athletes were honored Friday in Nerney Field House at the annual Senior Athlete Banquet.

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini Athletics Department hosted its annual end-of-year Senior Athlete Banquet Friday at Nerney Field House. The night featured the recognition of 61 Cabrini seniors and the awarding of the College’s traditional special awards.

Director of Athletics & Recreation Joe Giunta emceed the event. Cabrini's seventh President Marie A. George, Ph. D., shared welcoming marks before Rev. Michael Bielecki provided the evening’s blessing.

Each head coach of Cabrini’s 18 varsity athletic programs took center stage to honor his or her graduating seniors. All student-athletes were reminded of their dedication and hard work as members of the Blue & White.

Student-athlete wellness coordinator and women’s lacrosse head coach Jackie Neary presented Lauren Magill with the Girard-Goodwin Female Scholar Athlete Award. Golf’s Tim Harner received the male’s award, presented by head coach Tony Verde, Ph. D. The Girard-Goodwin Scholar-Athlete Awards are given to one male and one female senior student-athlete with the highest four-year cumulative GPA.

The most outstanding male senior athlete award, presented by head coach Steve Colfer, was given to men’s lacrosse seniors Jeff Moore and Scott Reimer. Moore and Reimer have played critical roles in the one of the most successful four-year runs in Cabrini men’s lacrosse history. Each received USILA Honorable Mention honors in 2008 and were named CSAC First Team selections in 2009.

Neary and softball head coach Lisa McGregor honored Melissa Benedetti as the most outstanding female senior athlete. Benedetti, a one-time three-sport athlete at Cabrini, was twice named a CSAC First Team performer for the field hockey team. Despite three career knee surgeries to repair a torn ACL, Benedetti also played basketball and softball for the Cavaliers.

Dixon Center administrative coordinator Amanda Eckenroad was named the 2009 Denise Edwards Award winner, presented by assistant women’s soccer coach and Dixon Center fitness director Jess Huda.

The Denise Edwards Award is given to an individual (faculty, staff or student) who best exemplifies the spirit of Cabrini Athletics. Eckenroad assists the athletics department on a number of fronts, including facility management, student staffing and event management.
