Cavalier Recap: May 11

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cavalier Recap will appear on CabriniAthletics.com weekly, retelling the tales of the week that was in Cabrini Athletics. Today’s recap details the week of Monday, May 4 to Sunday, May 10.

Golf
The Cabrini golf team begins its return trip to the NCAA Championship Tuesday, May 12 at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The three-day event will be hosted by Methodist University. The Cavaliers captured their second straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title April 26 at Broad Run Golfer’s Club.

Men’s Lacrosse (15-4)
The Cabrini men’s lacrosse team concluded its 2009 season May 9 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, suffering a narrow 8-7 loss at No. 1 Stevenson University. Senior attackman Scott Reimer and sophomore midfielder Paul Skulski each scored two goals. Junior attackman Casey Grugan recorded one goal, extending his consecutive goals streak to 54 games and tying a 32-year old Division III record held by Washington College’s John Cheek. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Chenoweth notched 19 saves in the loss.

Women’s Lacrosse (12-5)
The Cabrini women’s lacrosse team returned to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history. However, the Cavaliers’ run at a national title ended in a 14-9 loss at Roanoke College in the first round. Junior goalkeeper Kate Schmid notched 20 saves in the loss. Senior Kerri Ricker and junior Amanda Alexandrowicz each scored two goals for the Blue & White.

Men/Women’s Track & Field
The Cabrini men and women’s track & field teams began the stretch run of their 2009 regular season May 8 and May 9 at the Randall’s Island Sports Foundation meet. The Cavaliers notched six NCAA-qualifying performances, including a school-record time in the 4x400m relay.

Athlete of the Week
Kevin Misevicius
Basketball (Men)

Senior forward Kevin Misevicius scored a team-high 20 points in the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament First Round loss against No. 16 Randolph-Macon College at Albright College’s George C. Bollman Center.

Misevicius shot 8-for-17 from the field overall and knocked down 4-of-8 3-point attempts. He also grabbed four rebounds and swiped three steals. Misevicius reached the 20-point pleateau for the 30th time in two seasons at Cabrini.

Misevicius concludes his Cavaliers’ career listing ninth all-time on the program’s scoring list with 1,123 points. He ranks sixth all-time in blocked shots (73) and seventh in steals (155).

Misevicius is the only player in program history to twice eclipse the 500-point barrier in a single season. He also owns the team’s second and third best single-season steals performances, swiping 84 in 2008-09 and 71 in 2009-10.
