IMMACULATA, Pa. – Junior forward Annmarie Kolla’s goal with 5:06 left in the first overtime awarded the Cabrini women’s soccer team a 1-0 overtime victory versus top seed Marywood University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title match Saturday at Immaculata University’s Draper Walsh Stadium. The Cavaliers win their first conference championship since the 2003 season and fourth overall.
Kolla beat Marywood junior goalkeeper Meghan Coyle with a fast-break goal, supplying Cabrini just it’s second trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. The overtime victory was the Cavaliers’ third in three extra session contests this season.
Kolla led the Blue & White offense with seven shots and was named the game's most valuable player. Sophomore forward Kara Hinkelmon notched three shots.
The Pacers out-shot the Cavaliers for the contest, 13-12. Senior forward Lisa Hanselman led the Marywood charge with four shots. The Pacers also won the corner kick battle, 8-1.
Cavaliers freshman netminder Maddy Edwards earned her eighth win of the year in nine contests with six saves. Marywood goalkeeper Meghan Coyle recorded five stops in the loss.
Cabrini was playing without the services of leading scorer and CSAC second team selection senior forward Sabina DeGisi. DeGisi suffered season-ending leg injury in the semifinal win against Centenary College November 4.
In four years at Cabrini, DeGisi was named to the all-conference team four times, including three first-team nods. DeGisi wraps up a stellar Cavaliers’ career, posting 138 points on 62 goals and 14 assists in 76 games.
The Cabrini men’s soccer team (14-5-1), the second Cavaliers team to win the CSAC crown at the Fall Festival with the Blue & White field hockey program, will learn of its NCAA Tournament fate Sunday/Monday.
