IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini men’s soccer team has claimed it second straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) crown with a 2-0 victory against Immaculata University Saturday night at Immaculata’s Walsh Draper Stadium. The Cavaliers have punched their ticket to their third NCAA Tournament in program history.
Senior midfielder Brian Moran was named the game’s most valuable player. Senior midfielder Brian Raffle and sophomore forward Eric Collins each scored one goal in the triumph.
Raffle put the Cavaliers on the scoreboard first, tallying his team-best 13th goal of the season at the 7:10 mark. Raffle headed a ball past Immaculata goalkeeper Stone Gahagan off a throw-in feed from senior midfielder Andrew Jacobs.
Less than one minute following, Collins deposited his fifth marker of the year at the 8:07 mark, converting a serve into the box from junior forward King Saah.
The Blue & White offense out-shot the Mighty Macs’ attack, 17-10, for the contest, including an 8-3 advantage in the opening half. The Cavaliers and IU each generated three corner kicks.
The Cabrini defense stood tall from the opening whistle, led by junior back Troy Allen. Senior goalkeeper Bryan Johnson, the most valuable player of last season’s title tilt, posted three saves for his seventh shutout of the season and the 16th of his Cavaliers’ career.
Gahagan notched eight saves in the loss for the Mighty Macs.
The Blue & White hoists the CSAC hardware in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1998 and 1999 seasons. The Cavaliers also won three straight conference titles from 1993 – 95.
The Cabrini men’s soccer (16-3-2), one of four Cavalier athletic programs to win the CSAC trophy Saturday at the Fall Festival, will learn of its NCAA Tournament fate Sunday/Monday. The Cabrini field hockey, women’s soccer and volleyball programs each claimed the conference crown.
