RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men’s basketball team improved its record to a perfect 3-0 with a 77-69 win versus Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) foe Penn State – Altoona Saturday afternoon at Nerney Field House. Senior forward Kevin Misevicius led all scorers with 25 points and collected a team-best six rebounds in the win.
Junior forward Dom Farrello notched 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished four assists and swiped three steals. Freshman point guard Cory Lemons totaled 13 points, nine assists and four thefts.
Freshman guard A.J. Williams contributed eight points on 3-for-4 shooting in 14 minutes off the bench. Junior combo guard Lamar Fisher logged 22 minutes in a reserve role and chipped in six points on 3-for-5 shooting, including a thunderous fast-break dunk in the second half.
The Cavaliers held a one-point advantage at the intermission, 33-32, behind 40 percent shooting overall in the first half. Penn State – Altoona led by as much five points in the opening 20 minutes, but a three-ball from Williams in the corner brought the Blue & White even, 28-28, at the 3:05 mark.
Williams’ steal, lay-in and foul with less than 1:30 remaining in the half handed Cabrini a three-point advantage. A lay-in from Altoona senior guard Zach Spitz with 14 seconds left pulled the Lions to within one at the break.
The Cavaliers’ lead never reached more than six points until the final minute of regulation. Two free throws from sophomore forward Brandon Carter pushed the Cabrini advantage to 51-45 at the 11:46 mark. Carter played 25 minutes off the bench, scoring five points and recorded three boards.
The Lions pulled to within a field goal five times in the second half, but would never get closer than four points down the stretch. Farrello’s lay-in with 39 seconds remaining supplied the Cavaliers with a 74-66 cushion.
Junior forward Kirk Peters led the Altoona offense with 20 points on 9-for-13 shooting. However, Peters picked up his fifth personal foul with 8:24 remaining in the second half.
Senior guard Justin Gasbarre added 12 points for the Lions.
The Blue & White defense turned 19 Altoona turnovers into 17 points. The Cavaliers’ offense, orchestrated by Lemons, committed a season-low three giveaways. Cabrini out-scored the Lions 45-38 in the paint and 21-4 on the fast-break.
Prior to the game’s opening tip, Cabrini associate athletics director Jeff Falardeau presented head coach Marcus Kahn with a commemorative ball honoring his 100th career win. Kahn reached the coaching milestone with a 79-47 win at Drew University November 15.
Cabrini (3-0) opens its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season schedule Monday, November 30 versus Philadelphia Biblical University at home. Game time is set for approximately 8 p.m., following the women’s game at 6 p.m.
