MADISON, N.J. – The Cabrini men’s basketball team started it 2009-10 season off on the right foot Sunday, rolling to a 79-47 victory against Landmark Conference opponent Drew University at Baldwin Gymnasium. The win marks the 100th in head coach Marcus Kahn’s eight-year sideline career.
Senior forward Kevin Misevicius led the Cavaliers with a game-high 25 points, including 23 in the first half, on 10-for-16 shooting overall. A Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) First Team selection last season, Misevicius added four assists and four steals versus the Rangers.
Junior forward Dom Farrello complimented Misevicius on the offensive end, scoring 16 points.
Freshman guard A.J. Williams, one of six members of the Blue & White making his Cabrini debut, tallied eight points, shooting 2-for-3 from the 3-point line. Sophomore forward Brandon Carter also scored eight points and notched six rebounds in the victory.
Freshman center Goran Dulac posted four points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Corey White distributed a club-best six assists against zero turnovers.
The Cavaliers raced to a 25-9 advantage just 10 minutes into the first half. Cabrini’s lead ballooned to 43-14 in the opening period before it held a 43-23 cushion at the intermission.
The Blue & White began the second half with a 19-4 spurt, sparked by Farrello and Carter. Cabrini led by as much as 37 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Cavaliers’ created 16 second-chance points and generated 24 points off Drew turnovers.
Mike Mayes led the Rangers with 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting in the loss. Terrell Brown tallied 10 points.
Kahn arrived at Cabrini at the start of last season having won 77 games in six seasons at the University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg. Named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Coach of the Year, he helped lead the Cavaliers to 22 overall victories in 2008-09, the program’s highest win total since the 1995-96 season.
Cabrini (1-0) returns to action Wednesday, November 18 at non-conference foe Lebanon Valley College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
