NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Cabrini men’s soccer team will play in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season Saturday, November 14 at No. 7 Christopher Newport University. Game time against the Captains is set for 7:30 p.m. at Captains Field.

The Cavaliers captured their second consecutive CSAC title and seventh in program history with a convincing 2-0 win against Immaculata University November 7 as part of the Fall Championship Festival. Senior midfielder Brian Moran was named the match’s most valuable player.
Senior midfielder Brian Raffle and sophomore forward Eric Collins provided the two goals for the Cabrini offense. Senior goalkeeper Bryan Johnson recorded his 16th career shutout with three saves.
Heading into the national tournament, Raffle leads the Cavaliers’ attack with 27 points on 13 goals and one assist. Junior back Troy Allen (5G, 6A) and senior midfielder Andrew Jacobs (3G, 10A) have each recorded 16 points.
Johnson has been the Blue & White’s catalyst on the defensive end, notching a 0.74 goals-against average and .828 save percentage. He is a 16-3-2 and owns seven shutouts.
Allen, Collins, Johnson, Brian Moran, Jason Moran and Raffle each earned CSAC First Team distinction in 2009. Junior forward King Saah was named to the second team and sophomore back Kyle Johnson received honorable mention accolades.
Saturday will be the Cavaliers’ third appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Before last season, Cabrini hadn’t played in the big dance since the 1999 season.
Christopher Newport (18-2-1) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament via a 4-2 penalty kicks’ victory against North Carolina Wesleyan in the USA South Conference title match November 7.
Winston Matheisen, Nao Masudo and Brian Lybert have each eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the Captains. Matheisen leads the squad with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. Masudo (23) lists second and Lybert (21) ranks third.
Goalkeeper Justin Wolfe has played in 18 matches, making 16 starts. He has posted a 0.85 goals-against average and .765 save percentage. Wolfe boasts a 12-2-1 overall record and five blankings.
The Cabrini and Christopher Newport match is the nightcap for a doubleheader. Catholic University and Lynchburg College kick-off the festivities at 5 p.m. The second round contest will be held Sunday, November 15 at 6 p.m.
